The Last Devils Game – The Devils won their first game of the preseason, 3-2, over the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night. Travis Zajac scored the game-tying goal, and Ilya Kovalchuk netted the game-winner.
Tonight’s Matchup – Once again, it’s preseason, so the results don’t really matter. But a win is always nice. The team is still looking at several rookies, especially on the blue line, so tonight won’t be a full-squad game. Here’s what we’re watching for:
1. Blue Line Standouts – Which rookie is going to step up and earn the roster spot vacated by the now-injured Bryce Salvador? Matt Taormina, Matt Corrente and Alexander Urbom will all get a chance to play tonight, and each one will be looking to make an impression. We’ve heard a lot about Taormina and Urbom during camp, but don’t sleep on Corrente. He played with the Devils last year, and that experience can put him near the top of the list.
2. Tedenby’s Movin’ On Up…- to the second line. Mattias Tedenby will get a shot to play with Patrik Elias and Jason Arnott tonight, taking the place of Jamie Langenbrunner, who will shift down to the third line. For a rookie, especially one battling for a roster spot, this is a golden opportunity. Tedenby played significantly better in Tuesday’s game, and we’ll see if he can continue to improve.
Gametime is 7 p.m. at The Rock. It won’t be broadcast on t.v. or the radio, but WFAN.com will stream the game.
